Baths can be helpful for some children as part of the bedtime routine.  Others can find that they get over excited or anxious about having a bath, if this is the case then move the bath away from bedtime.  If your child enjoys having a bath then half an hour before bed is the ideal time to schedule it in your routine.  A bath helps to raise the body temperature, it is the decrease in body temperature that helps us to relax and feel sleepy, according to a 1997 study conducted by New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
