TRAINING FOR PROFESSIONALS

When a child is having sleep issues it can impact on all areas of their development including their emotional, physical and mental health. Our training is suited to professionals working in a range of roles, we are trusted to train the NHS, education and residential staff and those in family support roles.

We also train staff from the voluntary sector, nanny agencies and in the corporate sector. We can offer bespoke training to ensure that your staff support the families you work with appropriately. Please see below for training dates.

Workshops and Training for Schools

Young people are at particular risk of developing sleep issues yet there is very little support available to help them when they get into difficulties. Thanks to funding from The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, The Children’s Sleep Charity were able to take steps in highlighting the need for support during 2016/17 You can read a full overview on our projects page under teen sleep.

Our workshops for schools are available to be commisioned for all age groups and our Sleep Champion Training is highly recomended for those supporting young people in education. Please contact us for details

Rosemary Brooks, SENCO, Safeguarding Lead and Head of Year said of the training:

What I have really enjoyed in not only understanding more about the science of sleep...I have also liked the fact there have been really practical and achievable strategies and tools that I think are useful for young people to use independently and with the support of their parents"

Sleep Tight

Sleep Tight is a parenting programme, we train Family Support workers to effectively deliver their own 5 week workshop directly to families within their community.  The course ensures that workers are skilled in offering sleep support that is safe and based on the latest research. Course materials are provided and offer a step by step approach to delivering the training in localities. .

Sleep Tight was recently independently evaluated by Nottingham University, the findings were published in the Journal of Health Visiting.   On average, children had 2.5 hours more sleep per night after the intervention. Parents reported changes in family life and child's daytime behaviour. The findings support the use of Sleep Tight as an effective, time-limited behavioural sleep programme. This course is accredited with the CPD Standards Office and the evaluation can be read here

Sleep Support for Staff in Residential Settings

Research showed that night staff often receive no training around sleep issues.  With this in mind we have developed a bespoke training programme for residential settings.  Staff can be trained in a behavioural approach to sleep to encourage them to adapt appropriate routines in the hour before bed and support young people who have sleep difficulties.  Our programme offers different stages of intervention including advice around the bedroom environments and the training of a member of the residential settings team to become a sleep practitioner.
